In 1861 Elizabeth Packard was forcibly removed from her house and legally
committed to an insane asylum by her minister husband for disagreeing with
him publicly. She spent the next three years in deplorable conditions
documenting her abuse which secured her freedom and set her on a path to
reform the country’s mental health institutions.

She wrote her way out.

Harbinger’s 11th consecutive Capital Region Premiere sees the company
undertaking its largest and most challenging work yet with 16 speaking
roles filled by many of the most experienced and respected actors in the
Capital Region. It is a gripping drama that will infuriate you that
women could be treated like this and you never heard about it...and that so
many instances of the subjugation of women goes on today.
