The Theatre Institute proudly presents Number the Stars Book, music and lyrics by Sean Hartley Based on the book by Lois Lowry Directed by Michael Musial February 7 – February 18, 2024 | Schacht Fine Arts Center Theater A tender and intense adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel about one of the most inspiring episodes in human history: the rescue of the Danish Jews during World War II. Annemarie Johansen is surprised when her best friend Ellen Rosen arrives in her apartment to spend the night. When two Nazi soldiers appear at the door looking for the Rosen family, Annemarie’s parents pretend that Ellen is their own daughter. Annemarie comes to realize that all of the Jewish Danes are in terrible danger, and that it is up to their Christian neighbors to help them escape to neutral Sweden. He is the coordinator of the Musical Theatre and Theatre programs at Russell Sage College and composer, lyricist, & director of Benjamin Franklinstein the Musical and Backbeard the Musical (musical adaptations of Larry Tuxbury & Matt McElligott novels). Additionally, he is a member of the duo-piano team Musial and Musial. Russell Sage students Danielle Stallone, Kyra Burris, Steffanie Mamoser, Phil Bruns, Katrina Beach, Zac Zipersteun, Michael Keck, Cameron Richardson, John Diaz, and Madison Gaiser are joined by high school performer Harper Silvestri and local actor Michael Sinkora onstage in this telling of the Lois Lowrry classic. These actors are supported many current RSC students as student technicians on production, including Macayla Roberts as stage manager. Dragons Love Tacos Based on the book by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri Written by Ernie Nolan with music by Chris LaPorte Directed by David Baecker May 15 – 23, 2024 Schacht Fine Arts Center Theater You know what Dragons really love? Tacos of course! A boy and his dog are watching a TV show about dragons when they unexpectedly get caught up in the ‘Dos and Don’ts’ of what to serve to dragons to eat. Dragons love tacos, but if they accidentally eat spicy salsa…watch out! Recommended for all ages.  Produced by a special arrangement with Plays for New Audiences.  About the Theatre Institute:    Established in February of 2011, the Theatre Institute at Sage is dedicated to providing quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to Capital Region youth, educators and residents. The Institute also provides opportunities for Russell Sage students as performers, technicians and teachers.
