[Capdist-announce] Bridge Street Theatre’s SoloFest Show #2 – Adelaide Mestre’s “Top Drawer”

Her father was concert pianist whose well-to-do Cuban family didn’t support
his dreams. He was also a closeted homosexual. Her mother was an opera
singer with incredibly high standards whose love for her husband survived
even after their marriage fell apart. And playwright/composer/performer
Adelaide Mestre’s “Top Drawer”, a remarkable, hilarious, and heartbreaking
one-woman musical memoir about her family, comes to Bridge Street Theatre’s
“Priscilla” Mainstage in Catskill from March 8-10 as Show #2 in BST’s 2024
SoloFest.

In this autobiographical 90-minute solo show, Ms. Mestre (accompanied by
Doug Oberhamer at the piano) shuttles back and forth between the past and
the present –  revisiting her family’s flight from Cuba in 1960 to escape
the Revolution, her privileged childhood on Manhattan’s Upper East Side,
her parents’ tragic love affair, her return to Havana on a quest to reclaim
her family’s heritage and try to find the piano her father left behind, and
her own struggle, as an artist, to break free from the facade of glamor and
perfection that her family seemed to prize above all else. It’s an
inspiring tale of tragedy and triumph, dysfunction and redemption, leading
to the discovery that Art itself can work a kind of alchemical magic,
transforming feelings of loss and abandonment into a genuine sense of
freedom.

“Top Drawer” will be presented for three performances only – Friday March 8
and Saturday March 9 at 7:30pm and Sunday March 10 at 2:00pm. The theatre
is located at 44 West Bridge Street in Catskill, NY. Advance tickets for
all performances can be purchased online at
