Hello

I attended the short play festival as presented by Confetti Stage last night. Here is a review of the last show of the evening.

Marty Egan's Heresy is a funny look into theater's superstitions.

Local actor and playwright Mary Egan's "Heresy" is the final show of Confetti Stage's Short Play Festival. If you have ever affiliated yourself with a community theater, then you will recognize each and everyone of the characters in this play.

Jack, the newbie (wonders why actors are so weird)
Charlie, the young first time lead (working to make "HIS" show the best)
Marv, the veteran (seems like he was there when the theater was built)
Josie, the director/producer (trying to keep the show alive)
Debbie, the DIVA (my name is mispelled)
George and Sarah, the husband and wife acting team (you get one you get both)

The story takes place in the men's dressing room of a struggling community theater at the call time for its opening night of "Playboy of the Western World." Young Charlie, superbly performed by Confetti Stage veteran Stephen Henel, is stricken with opening night jitters as he desperately tries to ensure his lines are solidly memorized. This is his first lead after all.

The night skids out of control when the first time actor Jack, played by Scott Dani, says the name MacBeth; thus bringing the curse of the Scottish play down upon this struggling troupe on its opening night.

Being a scientist (meteorologist) by day, Jack considers the superstion silly and refuses to perform the ritual to lift the curse.

Tempers flare, snow falls, seduction ensues, cell phones die, as the half full house waits in the unheated theater for the opening night performance to begin.

The cast works very well together to keep the pacing of the intertwining storylines from dragging. Notable performances were given by Vivian Hwang, Rita Machin, and Jeremy Noble. Ron Pucherelli and Jen Dott were convincing as the husband and wife team, George and Sarah.

Heresy is not to be missed by anyone who has lived through an opening night as a member of a community theater. The show has been masterfully written by Mr. Egan, and Dan Kelly's direction is outstanding!

The ensemble cast includes Stephen Henel, Scott Dani, Vivian Hwang, Ron Pucherelli, Jen Dott, Rita Machin, and Jeremy Noble.
