<P class=EC_MsoNormal>Eating disorders affect more than 7 million American women and girls and nearly 70 million people worldwide. In a recent poll of 10,000 <I>ELLEgirl </I>readers, 30 % said they would rather be thin than healthy. Against this backdrop of disturbing statistics, Russell Sage College students created an original ensemble piece entitled <B><I>MIRROR MIRROR</I></B> which looks at the tyranny of the media toward women's bodies and the struggles young women have with body image, using both compassion and humor as they attempt to see themselves and others in a more empowered way. <SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN></FONT></SPAN></P>

<P class=EC_MsoNormal><FONT color=#000000><B><I><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'">MIRROR MIRROR</SPAN></I></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"> will be presented at 8PM on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 and at 3PM on Sunday, October, 26 in the James L. Meader Little Theatre on the Russell Sage campus in Troy.<SPAN> </SPAN>Admission is $10.00 for the general public and $8.00 for students and senior citizens. <P class=EC_MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'">Sage Creative and Performing Arts Professor David Baecker knew of Leigh Stimbeck’s interest in working with young women on these issues.<SPAN> </SPAN>Strimbeck, who conceived <B><I>MIRROR MIRROR, </I></B>directed a half-hour workshop version in the spring of 2007which was so well received that a year later, after even more research, reading and interviews, eight Russell Sage students and two high school students created an expanded version.<SPAN> </SPAN>The expanded production was presented at the end of “Body Image,” a mother-daughter workshop held at Russell Sage, <SPAN> </SPAN>and was also at a local high school.<SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN>The comments and accolades from mothers, daughters, teachers and high school students led to the current production and a new project which will offer <B><I>MIRROR MIRROR</I></B> as a touring program to area high schools and colleges in the spring of 2009. Stinmbeck also directed the highly acclaimed <STRONG><EM>Waiting for Joe, </EM></STRONG>another student created piece, which was performed at Proctors this past sping.</SPAN></P>
