This season marks the twenty-second year that the company has offered staged readings free to the public, and the upcoming roster continues their tradition of presenting works of varying nations, eras, and genres. All shows will be presented at Steamer No. 10 Theater, 500 Western Avenue, in Albany.

The first production, to be presented October 23-25, 2009, will be WIT by Margaret Edson. Winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize, this extraordinary drama focuses on a renowned professor of English who faces a diagnosis of terminal cancer. For many years, she has devoted herself solely to rigid analytical study of the metaphysical poetry of John Donne, but during her treatment she reassesses with profundity and humor the quality of both her life and her work. The director will be Carol King.

The second production, to be presented February 3-7, 2010, will be UNDER MILK WOOD by Dylan Thomas. In lyrical and sometimes earthly prose, one of the most controversial poets of the mid-twentieth century dramatizes the lives of the inhabitants of a smug and ingrown Welsh fishing Village. The vignettes are threaded together by the Onlooker, who conjures up characters and experiences in a cascade of impassioned language. The director will be Brian Massman.

The third production, to be presented March 26-28, 2010, will be announced shortly.

The final production, to be presented May 21-23, 2010, is THE WEIR by Conor McPherson. In a bar in rural Ireland, local men swap scary stories in an attempt to impress a young woman from Dublin, who has recently moved into a nearby “haunted” house. The evening is not complete, however, until she spins a yarn of her own. The director will be John Velie.

Theater Voices of Albany is a group of dedicated actors and directors, who for two decades have presented both new and classic works, with the specific goal of emphasizing the richness of the playwrights' language.
