The Giant Hoax is an original musical written by local Union College graduate, Kit Goldstein, based on the true story of the Cardiff Giant. It spins the tale of New York State's famous 19th century hoax as told through the eyes of a young girl.

In 1869, an immense controversy arises when a giant stone figure is discovered on a small farm in Cardiff, NY. Emily (Kacie Rea), a young girl, drawn by the idea of seeing a genuine giant, runs away from home in Schenectady to view the giant on display in Albany. Once there, she is offered a job as an apprentice.

The unscrupulous circus impresario, P.T. Barnum (Joe Phillips), is determined to make the Cardiff Giant his own. First, he tries to buy it from it's owner, Newell (Mike Benjamin). Then he schemes to create a new sculpture, claiming that his is the authentic Cardiff Giant. When Newell and Barnum go head to head, Emily faces
some difficult decisions about what to say an whom to trust.

The Giant Hoax is a wonderful family musical directed by Criss Maciaone with musical direction by Rebecca Benjamin.
