The director of the institution, Roote, is constantly undermined by two lackey underlings, while his mistress, Miss Cutts, adds to the mayhem. After one patient is apparently murdered and another raped, the search for the culprit reveals a disturbing secret.

THE HOTHOUSE was written in 1958, then shelved, and finally produced in 1980 under Pinter’s own direction. In 2005 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
