The play is based on the life of Diane Vreeland, who for five decades was an icon of American fashion. Set in 1971, the script dramatizes a turning point in this remarkable woman’s life: her return to New York from Europe after being fired from Vogue. Unwilling to accept the apparent termination of her career, she prepares an impromptu dinner party in hopes of finding a wealthy friend to bankroll a new magazine for her. The narrative that follows is both rollicking and poignant, as Ms. Vreeland takes us on a journey through the twentieth century, and reveals that behind her glittering, impenetrable manner lies a vulnerable soul.
