Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England is “an academic sex comedy” that focuses on the lives of three women in a college town in New England. Dean Wreen’s college is in dire financial straits and a plan to close its all-but-forgotten natural history museum is sending unexpected shock waves into the local community. At home, her ex-lover, Greer, is staying with her—sending shock waves of a different sort through her relationship with her current (and much younger) girlfriend, Andromeda. Town-gown relations are in tatters! The local newspaper is erupting in protest! Even the historically inaccurate dioramas in the museum have started mouthing off! Madeleine George uses humor, imagination, and wit to tell this story of “alternative kinship structures”, life and death, and academia, even incorporating some philosophy from the sitcom Friends along the way.
