Battenkill Books, is thrilled to be producing Karen Zacarías’ hilarious <i>The Book Club Play</i>, opening March 4 at

Hubbard Hall’s Freight Depot Theater. <span> </span>Kirk

Jackson returns to the Hall to direct this hilarious piece after directing the

hit comedic opera <i>La Pizza con Funghi</i>

last summer<i>. The Book Club</i> play

showcases talent new to the Hall with the casting of Megan Demarest, Wade

Simpson, Morgan Morse, and Oliver Wadsworth, while also bringing back some

Hubbard Hall favorites including Erin Ouellette, Catherine Seeley, and Lia

Russell-Self. Written by Karen Zacarías, the play focuses on the fun,

frivolity, and deeply serious politics found in our beloved Book Clubs. When a

new member is hastily invited into this Club, will this group of friends ever

be the same? Uproariously funny, this contemporary comedy lets us celebrate our

love for reading while allowing us to laugh at ourselves – and our loved ones.

Accompanied by opportunities for each audience to share their favorite book

titles, this play is a celebration of why we love to love – and talk about –

our books.<span>  </span>A prolific playwright, Karen

Zacarías is also currently working on her hit musical <i>The Destiny of Desire</i> at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, a piece

commissioned by Hubbard Hall’s own David Snider while he was still on staff at

Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where the musical had its world premiere in

2015. <i>The Book Club Play</i> was

premiered at the Berkshire Theater Festival in 2008 and has gone on to be Ms.

Zacarías’ most produced work throughout the U.S., for good reason. “Karen and

I have been close friends for over a decade and have worked on many different

plays and projects together over the years. Her history with this piece and its

evolution as a sharp, insightful, and touching comedy are part of why I wanted

to produce it here for our audiences,” said Hubbard Hall Executive & Artistic

Director David Snider. “It’s the rare play that is at once both hilarious and

heartfelt, and it reflects how much we need to connect as human beings in

today’s busy world.<span>  </span>And how much books

are a respite for us and a chance to reflect on who we are and what we want. I

know audiences are going to love it.”<span>  </span><span> </span></span></p>

of <i>The Book Club Play</i> will run

Saturday, March 4<sup>th</sup> through Sunday, March 19<sup>th</sup>, Fridays at

7:30pm, Saturdays at 2:00pm and 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $25

General Admission/$10 Student. Members of a local book club can call in to the box

office to save $5 on General Admission. All tickets are available online at

developed, produced, and presented theater, music, dance and the visual arts.

>From 19<sup>th</sup> century vaudeville and traveling troupes performing

Shakespeare to today’s newest developing artists, the Hall has long been a home

for theater, opera, dance and music and in recent years has developed into a

world-class development center for new work. Since 1977, Hubbard Hall’s current
