invited to a free, hour-long performance of Opera Saratoga’s “Opera to Go”
production of <b><i>The Bremen Town Musicians</i></b> (an adaption of the
Brothers Grimm folk tale) at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 So. Church
Street, Schenectady, on Saturday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m.<span> </span>The performance <span> </span>is underwritten by Schenectady Civic Players’
Gwen E. Fraser Memorial Fund to give back to the community and excite young
people on the magic of the arts.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:"times new roman","serif""><span> </span>Featuring
the music of Offenbach, Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi, John Davies has adapted
the beloved Brothers Grimm folk tale into a delightful children’s opera. The
donkey, General Boom, seeks to form a band for the town of Bremen using the
outcast farm animals as musicians. <span> </span>It
doesn’t take long for them to discover that they have to consider each other's
feelings before they can make music. But, can the four very different creatures
band together before pirates steal their instruments?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:"times new roman","serif""><span> </span>The
story of four farm animals brought together by fate and traveling with each
other is very much in the tradition of beloved "journey stories,"
including <i>The Wizard of Oz</i>, and the <i>Toy Story</i> movies. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:"times new roman","serif""><span> </span>Through
this adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale, children become
exposed to a rich variety of operatic music while exploring the important
themes of diversity and tolerance. Acceptance of others and the value of
cooperation are themes that are interwoven throughout the Opera-to-Go
performance. Appropriate for Pre-K to Grades 6.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:"times new roman","serif""><br></span></p>
