<span> </span>play of Schenectady Civic Players’ 90<sup>th</sup>
Anniversary Season, <b><i>Fifth of July</i>,</b> by Lanford Wilson <span>and </span><span>directed by Joseph Fava, </span>opens Friday, October 13, and runs
through Sunday, October 22, at its 12 South Church Street Playhouse in
Schenectady’s historic Stockade district.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif""><span> </span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:normal"><b><i><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif""><span>            </span>Fifth of July</span></i></b><b><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">, </span></b><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Lanford Wilson's classic play, is a
witty and clear-eyed examination of the disillusionment of flower children in
the aftermath of the Vietnam War.<span>  </span>A
group of formerly idealistic friends gather </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">in
rural Missouri </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">at
the </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">sprawling farmhouse home of Ken, a
legless Vietnam veteran, and his lover, Jed, a horticulturist. They are old
friends from college days and former activists who agitated for what they hoped
would be a better world. Their talk, as the play progresses, is sharp and funny
and, in the final essence, deeply revealing of lost hopes and dreams and of the
bitterness that must be fought back if one is to perceive the good that life
can offer.</span></p>

1980 starring Christopher Reeve as Ken, Jeff Daniels as Jed, and Swoosie Kurtz as
Gwen, and was later produced as a made-for-television movie.<br>

Glantzis (as Ken), Andrew Vroman as (Jed), Cristine M. Loffredo (as Gwen),

Sarah Durocher as (Shirley), and David Quinones (as Weston). </span></span></p>
