<p style="margin:0px 0px 10.66px"><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3">Peter Pan, I’ve come to appreciate during this rehearsal process,
is probably the most fascinating character for me to look at from different
points in my life. As a child with my absolute suspension of disbelief, I could
fly away to a world of adventure, battling pirates with my lost boys of the Colonie.
As an adult, I’ve heard of the syndrome named after him, realized his character
in the Barrie play doesn’t have an emotional arc or really growth of any kind,
seen how absolute faith has done irreparable harm in the world and just last
week felt the name and idea of Neverland, his idyllic home island, being
forever depreciated.</font></p>
<p style="margin:0px 0px 10.66px"><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3">Working as a theater artist in the Capital Region has
changed in my perceptions over the years as well. From being an embittered
reject after 13 years striving in NYC to returning home to Albany in ’94 and being
a community actor doing the most challenging work of my career on area
volunteer stages in groundbreaking vital plays to being a fierce evangelist for
the primacy, health and excellence of Capital Region theater thru my teaching,
directing, advocacy and most importantly, my attendance. I have been over the
moon to be a colleague in this community for the past 25 years which has over
60 groups producing with thousands of participants. I am proud to offer “Peter”
to an entertainment calendar which has over two dozen major theater productions
in the area in the month of March alone.</font></p>
<p style="margin:0px 0px 10.66px"><font face="Calibri"><font size="3"><font color="#000000"><span style="margin:0px"> </span>Along the way I met
Dr. Krysta Dennis, the producer of this show, when she played one of my
partner’s six wives as he assayed the role of Henry VIII at Albany Civic
Theater. She has taken on the mantle of irreplaceable champion of Capital
Region theater by extending Siena’s facilities and resources to over a dozen
local groups making the school far and away the outstanding supporter of
Capital Region theater among area schools. An invaluable assist which has incubated
dozens of productions attended by tens of thousands of Capital Region theater patrons
who need the region and world premieres made possible by the school’s generosity.
Just as importantly, she lends her great talents and time directing plays in
the community, serving on boards, all too rarely acting and can be found in the
audience weekly. I love the rough providence that “Peter” is my first college
directing job and it came from a colleague in the community.</font></font></font></p>
<p style="margin:0px 0px 10.66px"><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3">Every show we attend takes a measure of faith. We rouse
ourselves and venture out from our comfortable homes and put our interest and
attention in the care of storytellers with all manner of skill sets. I return
again and again to the theater to make sense of myself in the world and who I
want us to be and the act of attending makes my world better. Tonight, we ask
you to participate in creating our technicolor adventure by filling in with
your imagination what we have so crudely sketched. Our students have spent
countless hours away from their other studies working on this prayer in the
fervent hope to entertain you. </font></p>
<p style="margin:0px 0px 10.66px"><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3">We have all made this pilgrimage to experience what,
exactly? Our cast, designers and crew have entered our playground of a
rehearsal room and taken a beloved, oft-produced script and story looking to
tell it in a new way with found objects and exploratory movement and
techniques. We hope to tell our story hand-made with love, joy and collaborative
invention. A story where decency and altruism are rewarded, self-besotted
villainy vanquished, songs were sung, many laughs were shared and we had the
best time being in a large room with many strangers from our neck of the woods.
We are very grateful for your faith in attendance and now… let’s fly away. </font><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3"><br></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Calibri" size="3"><p
