The Town Players of Pittsfield will hold auditions for their winter production,
 ?Tuesdays With Morrie."  Directed by John Trainor,  this is the autobiographical

Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor.  ?Tuesdays With Morrie? was a
constant on The New York Times Bestseller List for more than four years with more
than five million copies sold and an Emmy-winning television film presented by Oprah

Auditions will be held Tuesday & Wednesday, Oct. 14 & 15, 7-9pm, at the Town Players

Katerina is an attractive and flirtatious (illegal) immigrant from Kosovo.
She speaks only in Albanian but manages to communicate with those around her
through her vocal inflections and physical actions. She and her grandfather,
Andreas, have been smuggled into the country where they expect to buy
passports for a good price. They are surprised, however, when their crooked
Russian passport supplier, Boris, pulls the rug out from underneath them.
Hilarious mayhem then ensues in typical Cooney style!

 Schenectady Civic Players announce auditions for Murderers  by Jeffrey 
Hatcher will take place on Tuesday, November 4 and Thursday, November  6 at 7:00 
p.m. at the Playhouse, 12 S. Church St., Schenectady, NY  12305.  
Gerald,  Lucy, and Minka are all murderers, residents of the Riddle Key 
Retirement  Community in Florida. That they committed murder is not in question, 
but as for  why...  In the slightly askew  imagination of playwright Jeffrey 
Hatcher (Tuesdays  with Morrie)  wickedness turns up in unlikely guises. As the 
body count rises, the homicidal  humor disguises an intriguing bit of 
subversion: the idea that some people might  deserve to be taken out. Hatcher?s keen 
sense of the ridiculous thrives among  the golf carts, cul de sacs and cocktail 
parties in this ultimately charming,  and very funny, evening of crime. 
Area Premiere 
Murderers  will be directed by Barry Corlew.  The script, largely three 
monologues played without intermission, calls  for strong actors able to memorize a 
considerable amount of material and capable  of performing solo. The 
characters are: 
GERALD  - mid 30's to early 40's.  Looks  good in a tux! Marries his 
mother-in-law, Spiff (it was her idea). ?...because  she's dying....and gee...all that 
inheritance stuff will be  easier! 
LUCY  - "adorable" housewife. Actress needs to be able to play 70-75.  Oh my, 
what to do with  Margaret Faydle (trollop with a hat)? More importantly, what 
does one do  with Lucy's wandering husband? 
MINKA  - pleasant woman, 40's.  Latino  look.  Riddle Key's members office  
'go to gal'. ..and conscience! ..."oh my....these people have got to go....look 
 what they did!!"

Needed:? Soprano for SLOC Musical Theater presentation of ?Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living in Paris?. Show dates are January 9-11, 15-18 and possibly 23-25, 2009. ?Age should be above 25.

?

Needs a fairly strong voice with a range of C to F, an ability to move on stage (no dancing) and, mostly, an ability to interpret songs.? Harmonies with the other 3 cast members are occasionally quite close.? The show will be presented cabaret style at SLOC?s Schenectady theater.

?

Jacques Brel was the premier French folk writer/singer during the 1950-1970?s. His songs explored facets of love, life, human foibles, war and death.? His work, however, was relatively unknown in America until ?Jacques Brel ?? Paris? opened in 1968 in New York?s Greenwich Village, and which featured 25 of Brel?s translated songs.? It was a ?hot ticket?, and ran there for over four years to packed houses, after which it enjoyed strong receptions at such places as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and a number of capital cities around the world.

?

The songs are variously vivacious, melodic, haunting, tender, dramatic, ?gutsy? or combinations of all of the above. ?It is a great vehicle for a singer/actress.? 

?

People are encouraged to listen to ?French? singers on YouTube (search: Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Elly Stone, Mort Shuman ? the latter two where in the origin

himself unemployed with plenty of free time with which to pursue

Nick is receiving proper care, he finds himself solving their

ROLES AVAILABLE

Murray Burns
is an unemployed television writer and the uncle and unofficial  
guardian of Nick.  Murray is a free spirit, an independent thinker,  
and he cannot be tied down to a nine-to-five job, wearing a suit and  
answering to a boss.


Sandra Markowitz
just of grad school, is a psychological social worker with the New  
York Bureau of Child Welfare.  She cannot help but become emotionally  
involved in her cases.


Leo Herman
is the star of the Chuckles the Chipmunk children's television show.   
While he is in character, he is wildly cheerful.  Off camera, he is  
insecure and depressed. He knows that children do not like him, and he  
suspects that he is not even funny. He says of himself, he is nothing  
but "the biggest phony you ever met."


Albert Amundson
is a social case worker with the New York Bureau of Child Welfare,  
sent to investigate Murray's fitness as a guardian for Nick.  He takes  
his job seriously and wants to do it well, but he has no affinity for  
children.


Nick Burns
is Murray and Arnold's twelve-year-old nephew, the son of their sister  
Elaine and an unknown father.  When Nick was five, Elaine left him at  
Murray's apartment and took off.  Nick is unusually intelligent and  
thinks he can read people and that he is skilled at telling them what  
they want to hear.  Nick loves Murray and wants to stay with him, and  
he tries desperately to convince the other adults to appreciate Murray  
the way he is.


Arnold Burns
is Murray's brother and also his agent. He is the most successful and  
stable member of the family, working for a large company of theatrical  
agents in New York City. Arnold looks after Nick and Murray

Christie at her best! In what is thought by many to have been her last play,
the author used all of her skills and techniques to present one of her
greatest murder mysteries in this undated manuscript.

 

A young lady who has just learned of her late mother?s prison term now goes
back fifteen years to the time of the crime to find out who is truly guilty
of murdering her father. The actors face the challenge of traveling back in
time to play their younger selves as they search their memories for the
truth of what happened that day. In the flashback, Carla will play her
mother, Caroline.

The Schenectady Theater for Children will hold auditions for Pinocchio  
Commedia on Tuesday, October 28th and Wednesday, October 29th and  
Wednesday,November 5th and Thursday, November 6. Auditions will be from  10am-1:00 each day at 
the Schenectady Theater for Children Studio at Rotterdam  Mall (next to the 
Sears entrance). Please come or contact us if you are an adult  or a young 
adult who is free during the school day. Singing ability a plus, but  not 
required. Rehearsals start in January. Trouping begins in March and ends in  May.

The historic Cohoes Music Hall is an acoustic theatre.
No microphones are used.


WHAT TO PREPARE:

ADULTS - Please bring sheet music and prepare 32 bars of song that shows
off vocal range.  Everyone must belt or have very strong mix.

CHILDREN ? Please prepare any Christmas Carol. Bring sheet music. Children
must be able to carry a tune.


Rehearsals begin Tuesday November 18. Will work around scheduling conflicts.

Days off during rehearsals for Thanksgiving are Thursday November 27 and
Friday November 28.

PREMISE


A typical young man and woman (Female, Male) endure a first date together. Each is haunted by society?s expectations, represented by ?voices? (played by Female 2 and Male 2), who follow them throughout their date, telling them how they are expected to behave! No one but Male or Female can hear or see these voices, until things begin to fall apart at the end. On top of that, the date is divided into rounds (gettting ready, going to dinner, getting coffee, etc.) after which the Announcer tallies up their points! (And you thought your first date was stressful!)

Plays range from comedy to drama, requiring several actors each. One one-act is a comedy about the pressures of dating, complete with boxing gloves! One full-length is about the tragedy of 911; another full-length ?is about the Kindertransport (transport of Jewish children out of Germany during WWII.) Come check them out!

Schenectady Civic Players announce auditions for Murderers  by Jeffrey 
Hatcher will take place on Tuesday, November 4 and Thursday, November  6 at 7:00 
p.m. at the Playhouse, 12 S. Church St., Schenectady, NY  12305.
 
Gerald,  Lucy, and Minka are all murderers, residents of the Riddle Key 
Retirement  Community in Florida. That they committed murder is not in question, 
but as for  why...  In the slightly askew  imagination of playwright Jeffrey 
Hatcher (Tuesdays  with Morrie)  wickedness turns up in unlikely guises. As the 
body count rises, the homicidal  humor disguises an intriguing bit of 
subversion: the idea that some people might  deserve to be taken out. Hatcher?s keen 
sense of the ridiculous thrives among  the golf carts, cul de sacs and cocktail 
parties in this ultimately charming,  and very funny, evening of crime. 

Murderers  will be directed by Barry Corlew.  The script, largely three 
monologues played without intermission, calls  for strong actors able to memorize a 
considerable amount of material and capable  of performing solo. The 
characters are: 

GERALD  - mid 30's to early 40's.  Looks  good in a tux! Marries his 
mother-in-law, Spiff (it was her idea). ?...because  she's dying....and gee...all that 
inheritance stuff will be  easier! 

LUCY  - "adorable" housewife. Actress needs to be able to play 70-75.  Oh my, 
what to do with  Margaret Faydle (trollop with a hat)? More importantly, what 
does one do  with Lucy's wandering husband? 

MINKA  - pleasant woman, 40's.  Latino  look.  Riddle Key's members office  
'go to gal'. ..and conscience! ..."oh my....these people have got to go....look 
 what they did!!" 

Production dates are  January 30 - February 1 and February 4-8, 2009. Please

RICHARD RICH
Late twenties to early thirties. He is studious and uncomfortable in his own skin. He understands he is capable of disloyalty.
DUKE OF NORFOLK
Late forties. He is an active sportsman and a soldier. He knows he is intellectually insignificant, but understands his value as a great nobleman.
ALICE MORE
Mid- to late-forties. Born into the merchant class, she is now a great lady. She worships her husband, though is often defiant toward him, and is "hot-hearted."
MARGARET MORE
Early- to mid-twenties. She has moral fineness like her father but has not his generousity of nature. There is a reserved stillness about her.
CARDINAL WOLSEY
He is old, a megalomaniac, ambitious, contemptuous of those he serves.
THOMAS CROMWELL
Thirties. Subtle and serious, he is Machiavellian in his ambition.
CHAPUYS
Middle-aged. A professional diplomat, dignified, a peasant at heart.
CHAPUYS? ATTENDANT
An apprentice diplomat of good family.
WILLIAM ROPER
Late-twenties to mid-thirties. He has a stiff bearing, and an all-consuming moral rectitude. 
THE KING
Not the Holbein Henry, but a younger man, bright-eyed, graceful and athletic. He is the GOLDEN HOPE of the new learning throughout Europe. He handles his absolute power with levity.

Synopsis:
?
When Henry VIII's first wife is unable to produce an heir to the throne, he uses that as a pretext for the pope to grant him a divorce, so he can marry his newest conquest. The King is backed by everyone on this request except the highly regarded and religious Sir Thomas More. Cardinal Wolsey, Chancellor of England, names More as his successor and it becomes important for Henry to get More's support, but he cannot be swayed. Henry demands the clergy to renounce the Pope and to name him Head of the Church of England. Oliver Cromwell frames More, forcing him to resign as Chancellor. Eventually More is brought to trial and is forced to choose between his life and his morals. A Man for All Seasons won multiple Tony awards and a Theater World award when first produced on Broadway in 1962.

voice.

SISTER ROBERT ANNE ? actress must belt to a D, and have a clear mix to G.
Actress must have convincing Brooklyn accent.

Also seeking 8 children (4 boys and 4 girls), ages 7 ? 11. All must sing.


The historic Cohoes Music Hall is an acoustic theatre.
No microphones are used.


WHAT TO PREPARE:

ADULTS - Please bring sheet music and prepare 32 bars of song that shows
off vocal range.  Everyone must belt or have very strong mix.

CHILDREN ? Please prepare any Christmas Carol. Bring sheet music. Children
must be able to carry a tune.


Rehearsals begin Tuesday November 18. Will work around scheduling conflicts.

Days off during rehearsals for Thanksgiving are Thursday November 27 and
Friday November 28.

There are rehearsals scheduled Saturday November 29 and Sunday November 30.


If hired, must be available for all performances.

The Schenectady Theater for Children will hold auditions for Pinocchio  
Commedia on  Wednesday,November 5th and Thursday, November 6. Auditions  will be 
from 10am-1:00 each day at the Schenectady Theater for Children Studio  at 
Rotterdam Mall (next to the Sears entrance). Please come or contact us if you  are 
an adult or a young adult who is free during the school day. Singing ability  
a plus, but not required. Rehearsals start in January. Trouping begins in
