BLACK THEATRE TROUPE OF UPSTATE NY:

AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Announcing Auditions for The Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY’s last productions of the 2023-2024 season: the One Act Jamboree, as well as a youth theatre production of Back to the Past and other variety acts.



YOUTH AUDITIONS (ages 9-14): Monday, March 18, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Location:  theREP (Capital Repertory Theatre): 251 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207

Auditions for youth roles in Back to the Past by Britt Miller & Jeffery Bradley, and for other variety pieces including monologues, poems, skits, and songs. No experience necessary!

Back to the Past is an exciting play that takes a classroom of children on an unforgettable adventure “Back to the Past” to meet famous, not so famous, and great African American achievers. Bessie Smith, Marcus Garvey, and Matthew Henson are just a few who visit and teach the children about their beautiful past.

Available roles for youth:

Six students ages 9 to 14 (African American).

Also looking for youths (all races and ethnicities) ages 9 to 14 to perform monologues, poems, skits, or songs.

Performance Dates:

Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9 at 1:00 PM at theREP – Lauren and Harold Iselin Studio. Rehearsals begin in early April.





OLDER TEEN (15+) and ADULT AUDITIONS: Monday, March 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Auditions for late teen and adult multiple short plays in the One-Act Jamboree and adult roles in Back to the Past. No experience necessary!

Location:  theREP (Capital Repertory Theatre): 251 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207

Performance Dates – June 6-9 and June 13-16, at theREP – Lauren and Harold Iselin Studio. Rehearsals begin mid-April.



Available roles for adults and older teens:

BACK TO THE PAST by Britt Miller, Jeffery Bradley

Ms. Webster (Caucasian, 30s and up)

Seven African American adults to play Historical characters: Mary Bethune, Frederick Douglass, Matthew Henson, Bessie Mae Smith, Marcus Garvey, Harriet Tubman and Denmark Vesey



ONE-ACT JAMBOREE PLAYS:

1 – WILCOX PROM 2K13 by Cris Eli Blak (1 male 17-18 black; 1 female 16-18 white)

2 – FAITH by Christine Hsu (1 male, mid-teens, non-white; 1 female – mid 20s, non-white)

3 – FRAGILE by Dana Leslie Goldstein (2 African American females, 20s and 50s)

4 – NATURAL HAIR HELPLINE by Kyora Wallace (4 African American Females, 20s to 50s)

5 – NO GOD IN THE STREET by Yetunde Babalola (2 black women, 20s)

6 – NICE DAY by Mathew Sheridan (1 African American male, 20s to 40s; 1 White male late 20s to 60s; 1 White female 60+)

7 – WOOKIES IN THE WILDERNESS by Marcus Scott (2 black men, 17/18)
