<HTML><FONT FACE=arial,helvetica><HTML><FONT SIZE=2 PTSIZE=10 FAMILY="SANSSERIF" FACE="Arial" LANG="0">Auditions for David Auburn’s Proof will be held on Tuesday, November 2, and Thursday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 S. Church St., Schenectady. Registration for auditions begins at 7:00 p.m. each night.<BR>

On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father Robert, once a renowned mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with the aftermath, including the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire, as well as the attentions of Hal, a former student of Robert's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that he left behind.<BR>

Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father's genius -- or madness -- will she inherit?

Character breakdown:<BR>
<BR>
Catherine (25) - An emotionally volatile woman who for five years has acted as sole caregiver to an ailing father. Though intellectually dynamic, she has allowed herself to withdraw, her tart demeanor masking an apprehension regarding interpersonal relationships and the possibilities of life.<BR>
<BR>
Robert (50s) - A widowed college professor whose mathematical skills brought him world prominence. He is stern and precise by nature but also warm and considerate.

Hal (28) - A former graduate student of Robert's, he is interested in both investigating the work his professor left behind and pursuing his affections for Catherine.
<BR>
<BR>
Claire (29) - Stylish and attractive, she is a bright and successful businesswoman who nevertheless has long held an adversarial relationship with her sister Catherine. The geographic absence from her father's immediate world brings some guilt and a renewed desire to lend help.<BR>
