<p class="MsoNormal">On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, who has
spent years caring for her brilliant, unstable, and now deceased father, must
decide how to move ahead with her own life.<span style="mso-spacerun:
yes"> </span>This, while dealing with her estranged sister, as well as
the attentions of a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable
work in the chaos the famous mathematician left behind.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Over the weekend that follows, a
burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine
into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s genius, or
madness, will she inherit?</p>

avoiding coming to terms with all but the basics of day-to-day existence.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Robert</b><span style="font-weight:normal"> (50s) –<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>A scholar, but with a down-to-earth
manner that suggests complete ease in his skin.<span style="mso-spacerun:
yes"> </span>Warm, affectionate, disintegrating.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Hal</b><span style="font-weight:normal"> (late 20s) – A
former grad student of Robert’s, he is preparing for the life of an academic or
teacher, neither of which much excite him.<span style="mso-spacerun:
yes"> </span>He has been attracted to Catherine from afar for years.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Claire</b><span style="font-weight:normal"> (late 20s-early
30s) – A professional businesswoman, with everything that implies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Has for years been living some distance
away, geographically and emotionally.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</span>Now wants to reconcile and offer help, regardless of whether either is
welcome.</span></p>
