is the story of Susan, a Vicar's wife unhappy with her life, who steps on a
garden rake succeeding in whacking herself in the head - and into an imaginary
world where her perfect family exists. As we follow Susan's journey, her real
family and imaginary family become more and more intertwined until reality and
fantasy occupy the same space.</SPAN><SPAN
style="FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; COLOR: #333333; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><BR><BR><SPAN
style="BACKGROUND: white">This work is often considered the playwright’s most
autobiographical work, d</SPAN>rawing inspiration from the women in his own
life.<BR><BR>English accents are requested at auditions, but do not let that
discourage anyone from auditioning.<BR><BR><B>Roles available:</B><BR><BR>5 men
3 women. Ages 20's to 50's.<BR><BR><B>Susan, 40s - 50s</B> hit in the head at
the start with a garden rake. A housewife who, in reality, is neglected by her
husband, patronized by her sister-in-law, and estranged from her son. In her own
imaginary world, by contrast, she is happy, successful, and loved by her perfect
family.<BR><BR><B>Gerald, 40 - 50,</B> Susan's real husband, a vicar whose
interest in his wife has long since faded in favour of his book and undivided
attention to his sister/<BR><BR><B>Muriel, 50s,</B> live-in sister to Gerald,
dead weight about the house, self-centered, and an unimaginably bad
cook<BR><BR><B>Rick, 20s,</B> Susan's real son, who joined a cult that forbids
members to speak to their parents.<BR><BR><B>Bill Windsor, 30s 50s</B>. Susan's
doctor who has a greater fondness for Susan than one would expect. Bill is the
only character that breeches both worlds.<BR><BR><B>Andy, 40s 50s</B> Susan's
imaginary husband, handsome, devoted, master cook, and everything missing from
Gerald.<BR><BR><B>Tony, 30s - 40s</B> Susan's imaginary young brother, devoted,
mischievous.<BR><BR><B>Lucy, 20's</B> Susan's imaginary daughter, beautiful,
close, and, unlike Rick, shares every secret with her.<BR><BR><B>For
