Young actors will not be called for rehearsal until 3PM on school days –
but will have regular 8 hour rehearsals on Saturday and Sundays. There will be student helpers for
homework. Young actors are
expected to keep up with school work and maintain a good grade average. The rehearsal schedule is intense and
young actors may be called to rehearse 6 days per week.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">SYNOPSIS: GYPSY is the rags to riches story of Burlesque
queen, Gypsy Rose Lee, who began her career as an awkward tomboy. Pushed into show biz by her aggressive
stage mom, Rose, young Louise played second banana to her talented sister,
June, in one vaudeville act after another across the country. GYPSY has been called the “greatest
musical of the American theatre,” by more than one critic with a brilliant
score that includes, “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “Together, Wherever
We Go,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” and “Rose’s Turn.”</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Capital Rep is seeking talented young actors who can sing
and dance, as well as tumble and do acrobatics, juggle, do magic tricks and/or
play musical instruments -- to make a lively vaudeville ensemble and take on a
number of roles in the show.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">SEEKING – YOUNG ACTORS</p><p class="MsoNormal">FEMALES:</p><p class="MsoNormal">(1) Baby June, 8-10 yrs old, petite. Under 4’11.” The adorable center of Mama Rose’s act. Baby June has to sing (“Let Me
Entertain You”), Required: dance: tap), splits, Optional: baton.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">(1) Baby Louise, 8-12, 4’8” – 5’1”, A tomboy, has to dance,
but follows Baby June – soft shoe, basic tap.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">(1) Dainty June, teenage, 5’2” or under. Baby June as a young teen. Needs to sing, tap and do the
splits. She will also appear as a
Trocadorable and be featured in the show vaudeville ensemble.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">(2) Girls: 13-18.
Have to be able to look younger than teen, then full blown
teenagers. Will play various roles
in the audition scene, will be featured in vaudeville ensemble and as
Trocadorables. Sing, tap, acrobat,
juggle, etc. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">MALES:</p><p class="MsoNormal">(3) Boys – must be 4’11 or shorter. Newsboys in Baby June’s vaudeville act
and members of the show vaudeville team.
Dance: tap. Lots of
enthusiasm, belt singing.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:</p><p class="MsoNormal">Singing auditions:
