27th at Troy Night Out The Arts Center of the Capital Region will be hosting an
<i>Uncle Sam Smack Down</i> in our black box theatre. We are asking for local
theatre makers to send in an original three to five minute performance piece
that in some way represents or reflects some aspect of the iconic meat packer
turned myth, and son of Troy, NY, Uncle Sam. Be it inspiration,
adoration, or protest, let Uncle Sam be your muse. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>Here’s the meat:<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>1. Time limit of five minutes or less.
This is the performance time. Any piece sent that obviously goes over that
length will not be considered.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>2. Deadline for submissions is June 16th,
Monday, at 5pm. Selections will be made by Thursday, June 19th.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>3. You must provide the performers and all
costumes and props for your piece. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>4. You must be able to set up and clear the
stage for your performance quickly and cleanly.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>5. You and your performers must be able to
attend a rehearsal on Sunday afternoon June 22, or Monday evening June 23rd at
The Arts Center of the Capital Region.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>6. Performance slots will be decided by The
Arts Center, so you will need to be available from 5:30pm to 8:30 pm on Friday,
June 27th. Performance times defined by Wednesday, June 25th. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>7. The simpler the better. We have a stage and
lights and a sound system, but will not select a piece with excessive staging. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>8. You must be at the theatre and ready to
perform 30 minutes prior to your slot. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=BasicParagraph style='text-align:justify'><b><span style='font-family:
"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>9. No nudity or gratuitous sex, violence, self
mutilation or open flames. This is intended for an adult audience, so
language is fine. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

"News Gothic Std","sans-serif"'>10. All performance mediums are welcome. Dance,
song, puppets, spoken word, monologue, play...bring it on! It just needs to be
ORIGINAL, and you need to be able to convey the idea of it in your submission. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
