1800s. The place: <i>Buffalo Bill’s Wild West</i>, the world-famous touring show. The star: handsome and dashing sharp shooter Frank
Butler. Enter Annie Oakley,
a rough-hewn, illiterate mountain girl who possesses her own superhuman talent
with a firearm. Subsequently brought
aboard the company, Annie soon threatens to become the featured attraction, a
threat to Frank’s status and pride, not to mention his romantic independence. Will Annie
stay true to herself and risk losing Frank?
Will Frank risk losing himself if it means gaining Annie? Will
the sunset have to wait for the two of them to get with it and work things out

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Schenectady Light Opera Company</b> is
pleased to announce auditions for the opening production of our 90<sup>th</sup>
Anniversary season: Irving Berlin’s <i>Annie
Get Your Gun</i>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">This Tony
Award-winning fable of the true-life romance of Annie Oakley and Frank Butler
was a rare venture into musical theatre for Berlin, who certainly made the most
of it. From “Anything You Can Do” to “Doin’
What Comes Natur’lly” to “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” the score
hits the bullseye again and again.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">Auditions for <b>SLOC</b>’s production will be held June 20, 21 at 6:30pm at the theater. Please prepare 16 bars
of a Broadway show tune or similar standard (accompanist provided). Readings will be from the script. Open to all ethnicities.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">Rehearsals
will commence mid-July, leading up to performances September 23 through October
2. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Available roles:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Annie Oakley</b> (20s) – Spirited and fun. A little bit ugly duckling, a little bit
swan. Confident in her marksmanship,
though not so much in her “manmanship.”
Just her luck that her eagle eyes get crossed over…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Frank Butler</b> (30s) – Handsome,
self-assured, man’s man. A pretty good
guy who knows what he wants in life, which includes bachelorhood as well as maintaining
his rightful place at the top of the bill working for…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Buffalo Bill</b> (50s-60s) – Larger than
life, old west celebrity. Gentlemanly,
kind, eyes full of twinkle. A true showman
as well as benevolent leader of his touring family. Ably assisted on the road by…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Charlie Davenport</b> (40s) – Manager of
the traveling Wild West show. Quick
witted, sharp, can handle any issue.
That is, except for…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Dolly Tate</b> (30s) – Frank’s lovely (superficially,
that is) assistant. Believes herself
entitled, especially to Frank. Doesn’t
much regard a certain type of indigenous people, some of whom she has to work
with, one of whom is dating her sister…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Winnie Tate</b> (late teens) – A happy,
vibrant young woman. Part of a featured knife
throwing act, trusting her life as well as heart to….</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Tommy Keeler</b> (20s) – Half
native-American, half white, all in love with Winnie. Honored to be working with the venerable… </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Chief Sitting Bull</b> (50s-60s)* – Grand old
figurehead of the frontier. Worldly and
wise. Makes Annie his honorary daughter,
which means he’s also adopted…</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Jessie</b> (14) – Annie’s little sister</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Nellie</b> (12) – Annie’s other little
sister</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Little Jake</b> (10) – The man of the
family. All the Oakley kids sing a song

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>Foster Wilson </b>(50s) – Grizzled hotelier
who first discovers Annie, though he’s not at all keen on show-biz folk such

good-natured rival on the western show circuit</p>
