She is taken into custody by police and interrogated by newly-appointed magistrate Paul Sevigne. Rather than immediately assume her guilt, Sevigne sees something in the girl that doesn't quite add up. He believes her to be innocent, despite her ridiculous attempts to confess. As he continues with his interrogation, bringing in the girl's employer, his wife and others, the hilarious twists and turns keep coming as Sevigne becomes determined to identify the true murderer.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-size:12.6667px;color:rgb(34,34,34);font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">Cast of Characters</span></p></div><div><div>Paul Sevigne (30-45) - Examining Magistrate. He is unsteady in a new position and desperately trying to please everyone, while also following his investigative instincts.</div><div><br></div><div>Morestan (30 - 45) - His clerk. An old hand at interrogation, he guides Sevigne through it, hilariously offering advice and reacting to each ridiculous twist the investigation takes.</div><div><br></div><div>Lablache (45 - 60) - Sevigne's superior. A rather pompous man with little time for Sevigne's antics. He considers the case open-and-closed.</div><div><br></div><div>Antoinette Sevigne (25 - 35) Sevigne's wife. Loving, but very nosy. She weasels her way into the details of the investigation for no reason. She is extravagant and would like to be used to a certain style of life.</div><div><br></div><div>Josefa Lantenay (18 - 25) A young murder suspect. She is straightforward, guileless, amoral and extremely attractive. </div><div><br></div><div>Benjamin Beaurevers (40 - 60) Josefa's employer. An aristocratic man who is extremely verbose and bored by it. Slightly out of touch with his surroundings.</div><div><br></div><div>Dominique Beaurevers (40 - 60) His wife.
