We are looking for experienced, adept improvisers who want to be part of an ensemble that performs regularly. <div><br></div><div>TL/DR: There is no such thing. You can expect to play a few group warmup games, then do one or two brief improvised scenes. You will be playing with other auditioners and/or company members for the audition. </div><div><br></div><div>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: </div><div>Improv experience and ability are a must: If you took a class back in college and have done a couple of shows in the intervening years, this is probably not for you. You might be a very gifted but inexperienced improviser: in that case we would suggest a series of classes to develop your skills. </div><div><br></div><div>Membership is a marathon, not a sprint— we are seeking long term commitments. </div><div><br></div><div>PREPARATION: </div><div>We offer “Workout Nights,” a regular weekly open class for all ability levels, on Monday nights from 7-9 PM. While not mandatory, attending a Workout Night might give you an idea of the vibe and culture at the theatre prior to auditioning. (If you are cast, you would become a probationary member for a period of three months, after which time we and you would decide if continuing as a company member was the way to go, so it may be said that we have the longest callbacks in show business.) </div><div><br></div><div>PAY: </div><div>At this post-lockdown time, we sadly are unable to pay for our regular weekly shows, though we do pay for external gigs and special event shows. We hope to resume small stipends to weekend performers in the future. </div><div><br></div><div>ABOUT THE COMPANY: </div><div>The Mop & Bucket Co. is the longest-established improv group in the region. We perform every weekend in our theatre, The Mopco, at 10 North Jay St. in Schenectady. We perform short and long form improv of various types and flavors. The Mop & Bucket Co has been around in one form or another for over 25 years; we were the improv company in residence at Proctors for 9 years, and we have been performing at The Mopco since 2016. </div><div><br></div><div>MUSICIANS: </div><div>We are always interested in auditioning accompanists/musical directors. Piano is the instrument of choice, and of course, the successful candidate must be able to work with improvisers who are making up songs on the spot. Musicians receive small stipends for accompanying our regular shows, and of course are paid for external gigs and special events. Mostly, however, people do this because they love to improvise and like to play with others in this way— you wouldn’t get rich on what we can offer.
