When Molly Egan, a feisty, salt-tongued activist nun appears before Henry Polasky, a cantankerous conservative judge, for picketing a local nuclear arms research facility, their differences seem insurmountable.
But as Molly is hauled back repeatedly into his court, a relationship develops between these two seeming opposites. Eventually Molly’s courage and spirit penetrate Henry’s rigid exterior and his devotion to logic and the law. With humor and pathos, Gibson reveals their rocky personal stories and the eventual breakdown of their opposing world views until they connect on a purely human level.
