Little Mary Sunshine

Clifton Park:     A spoof?  A send-up?  Whatever you call it, Not So
Common Players production of Little Mary Sunshine is a load of fun,
laughter and great music.  A long-running hit both Off Broadway and in
London's  West End, it pokes fun at the traditional operettas and
musicals of an earlier Broadway.  Sponsored by the Town of Clifton Park,
the performances are FREE and will take place at the Little Theater
Shenendehowa HS East - April 27, 28, 29 and May 4, 5, 6.  Friday and
Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday Matinees at 2:00 PM
 
     Little Mary, (Molly McGrath) the sweet and lovable owner of the
Colorado Inn never loses her cheerful outlook on Life, even though she
may lose her Inn, and her life is in danger from a mysterious enemy.
She has help from her saucy maid, Nancy (Sarah Sutliff) and a troop of
Forest Rangers, led by the brave and noble Captain Big Jim Warington,
(John Sutliff) and Corporal Billy Jester (Tim Orcutt).  Add a fading but
still lovely opera singer, (Monica Cangero) a lecherous Washington
Diplomat (Marty Egan) and a chorus of young ladies from an Eastern
finishing school, and it's no surprise that everything comes out right
in the end.  
 
     Three Indians from the local Kadota Tribe (John Burke, Frank
Meredith and Pedro Gonzales) move the plot along, as do the Young Ladies
(Johanna Mackenzie, Cecelia Gray, Laura Smith and Heather Borden) and
the Forest Rangers (Andrew Robison, Matt Stoker, Brian Ondov and Dennis
Chmura).
 
     Doug deLisle returns to the NSCP stage as Director, and Sherri
Strichman joins the company as Music Director.  Donna  Hatch
choreographs the many dance numbers, the costumes are designed by
award-winning costumer Karen Boynton and set design is by Bob
Farquharson..
 
    Perhaps Doug de Lisle sums it up best.  "What draws me to 'Little
Mary Sunshine is that is a spoof with a heart  It doesn't trash
operettas, but instead by using the utmost sincerity, points out their
silly foibles.  At the same time, the music is delightful, and the
musical is better than a lot of legitimate operettas."
