THEATER VOICES HAS ANNOUNCED ITS 2008-2009 SEASON OF STAGED READINGS

This season marks the 21st season that Theater Voices has offered
staged readings of distinguished plays of language. The plays will
be presented at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, in
Albany, NY. All performances are free to the public.

THE BEST MAN - by Gore Vidal, directed by Chris Foster
October 17 - 19, 2008
Auditions: Sunday September 7th 3-5pm and Tuesday September 9th 7-9pm
at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, Albany.

This witty political drama by one of America’s foremost men of
letters was written in the early 1960’s, but its themes and
characters are timeless. Here two candidates for President vie for
their party’s nomination by trying to gain the all-important
endorsement of the retiring Chief Executive. Meanwhile the stakes
rise, and the political tactics intensify.

LATER LIFE by A.R. Gurney, directed by Ed. Lange
February 13-15, 2009

Lost opportunities and personal realization are only two of the
themes of this comedy-drama, as two lovers who long ago drifted apart
meet at a party, where they find one last chance at happiness. The
numerous other guests are played by just two actors, as the evening
alternates between hilarious confusion and touching revelation.

THE ROAD TO MECCA, by the distinguished South African playwright
Athol Fugard, directed by Mark Dalton
April 3-5, 2009

The meaning of art and the poignancy of age are brought together in
this drama, as an elderly Boer woman faces loss of freedom at the
hands of a narrow-minded minister who despises the sculptures she
creates.

IF WE ARE WOMEN, by award-winning Canadian playwright Joanna
McClelland Glass, directed by Kristen Vanginhoven
May 15-17, 2009

Set in Connecticut, this bittersweet comedy dramatizes the dreams and
memories of three older women in one family, who try to impart the
meaning of their experiences to their youngest member.
