If you are looking for a great way to unwind, laugh till it hurts and enjoy your long weekend, come to East Greenbush and experience The Complete History of America !
Spotlight Players is launching their 2008-09 season with a revival of last season’s immensely popular The Complete History of America, Abridged . Created by three writers, Reed Martin, Adam Long and Austin Tichenor, who call themselves the Reduced Shakespeare Company, this show is historyRocky and Bullwinkle-style -- fractured, with no desire to get it right and a concerted effort to offend. Humorless historians might bristle, and advocates of both political parties will laugh riotously at references to their opponents-- and be deeply insulted by references to their own, all in the name of good irreverent fun.
See this as a good primer to bone up on your civics knowledge in preparation for the next election. (However, If this influences your vote in any way, we probably think you should not be voting to begin with!) We take no political sides, and the bull's eye is on everyone.
Think of the story of the founding of Jamestown told as a riotous white-boy rap. Think of the witch-hunting Puritans of Massachusetts with a pastor named the Rev. Feral Orwell, who leads his youthful parishioners in games of Pin the Blame on the Warlocks and Hangman. Think of Lewis and Clark as a vaudeville team, with jokes so lame that they ought to be passing out crutches at the door. A large cast of historical characters is waiting to entertain on Spotlight’s stage.
Spotlight’s Winter 2008 production of The Complete History of America, Abridged played to enthusiastic, crowded houses with rave response, due in large part to its skilled cast. Eric Shovah, Adam Coons and Michael A. McDermott return for this production, and they’re promising even more laughs that before. "To watch these three actors play a wide range of characters is a great part of the fun", says Spotlight President, Ferne Dutkin. "They work incredibly well together! "
The Complete History of America, Abridged
will be performed October 10th and 11th at 8pm in the Columbia High School auditorium, Luther Rd. in East Greenbush. Tickets are $12 – call 477-8330 for reservations or further information.
