Area Premier of Wrecks
by LaBute

D & M Productions will present the Capital Region premier of Neil LaBute's Wrecks at ZuZu's Wonderful Life Café, Albany, NY on November 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23.

This one-man show, starring veteran actor Ed McMullen, is a stream-of-consciousness narrative rendered by a grieving widower. Standing in a room just outside his wife's wake, Edward Carr reflects on his long and happy marriage to his recently departed spouse, Mary Jo.

His monologue covers a vast array of experiences in his journey to meeting, marrying, and finally saying goodbye to the love of his life. The chain-smoking Carr presents himself as a fairly normal widower for the most part, until he discloses an unusual secret about his marriage that goes well beyond the bounds of the social norm.

The American premier of Wrecks took place at the Public Theater in New York City in October 2006 and featured Ed Harris as Carr. LaBute directed this production. Theater critic John Lahr of The New Yorker called it, "Superb and subversive…A masterly attempt to shed light on the ways we manufacture our own darkness."

Paul Dellio is directing Wrecks for D & M. He and McMullen have collaborated on several plays over the past 20 years, including Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Murder in the Cathedral, Faith Healer, Molly Sweeney, Doctor Faustus, You Can't Take It With You and an original work performed in New York City called Bruised Reeds.

McMullen, who is also producing Wrecks, lists among his favorite roles Roy Cohn in Angels In America, Donnie Dubrow in American Buffalo, Chaim Kolvler in The Quarrel, and General Wallace in The Andersonville Trial. McMullen has also directed Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and a recent revival of Faith Healer. He had acted in an earlier rendition of Faith Healer in the late 1990s that Dellio directed. McMullen has also taught acting for adults in recent years.

Showtimes are: 8pm on Nov 15, 21, 22 and 2 pm on Nov. 16 and 23. Admission is $15. For more information, call (518) 522-7273.
