“Sangeetham: A Journey into the Musical Heritage of India”
FREE 6-session training course on Carnatic music
Instructor: Vidya Subramanian

Location: Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library

Learn about and experience the 3,000 year old tradition of Carnatic vocal music - the beautiful and traditional classical music of southern India. Prior musical training is not required. Attendees may participate in optional singing training at the end of each session.

Session dates and descriptions:

Session 1: Sat, Jan 16, 2010, 2 pm, Raga (melody) and Tala (rhythm)
Session 2: Sat, Jan 23, 2010, 2 pm, Compositions and Great Composers
Session 3: Sat, Jan 30, 2010, 2 pm, Carnatic Music and Spiritualism
Session 4: Sat, Feb 13, 2010, 2 pm, Improvisation in Carnatic Music
Session 5: Sat, Feb 20, 2010, 2 pm, How to Appreciate a Carnatic Music Concert
Session 6: Sat, Feb 27, 2010, 2 pm, More on Carnatic Concert Appreciation
(Note: Sessions 5 and 6 will include an audio/visual presentation)

This program is open to adults and children aged 10 and above. Attendees may register for one or multiple sessions. Although every session will be taught as an independent module, attendance at all sessions is highly recommended.
