Theater Voices will present a staged reading of LATER LIFE by A.R.
Gurney directed by Ed. Lange.
Performances of LATER LIFE, a witty portrait of rekindled romance,
will be given at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue in Albany
on Friday, February 13 at 8, Saturday February 14 at 3 and 8, and
Sunday February 15 at 3. Admission is free.
Set at a party overlooking Boston Harbor, this comedy-drama
dramatizes themes of lost opportunity and personal realization. The
main characters are Austin, who has spent his life in anticipation of
misfortune, and Ruth, a multiple divorcée whose personal existence is
spinning out of control. The numerous other guests, all played by
just a few actors, hope that the reuniting of these two lost souls
will allow them to find together, the happiness that individually
they’ve missed. The innate desperation of their plight is leavened by
Gurney’s characteristic wit and gentle humor.
A.R. Gurney is one of America’s most produced playwrights, renowned
for his incisive portraits of the country’s upper class Wasp culture.
Among his most notable works are THE COCKTAIL HOUR, LOVE LETTERS, and
THE DINING ROOM.
