Michael Anthony Williams Returns to Capital Repertory Theatre

 

 

Albany, N.Y. (May 4, 2009) – Michael Anthony Williams returns to Capital Repertory Theatre for its 30th Season of award-winning theatre as Tom Robinson in To Kill A Mocking Bird, slated for March 2010.  Last summer, Williams served as the Director of S.T.A.R. (Summer Theatre At the ‘Rep), a full day theatre program for adolescents ages 12-18.  Capital Rep is pleased to announce that he will return to lead the S.T.A.R. 2009 program.  

 

Williams is a professional actor and writer with over two decades of experience working on stage, television and in feature films.  A faculty member of the Theatre Department at Virginia Tech University, he has had a distinguished career on stage, television and in feature films, most recently “The Brave One” starring Jodie Foster.  

 

Williams is also the creator and founder of “Improv Affect,” an improvisation-based theater initiative targeting young people, empowering them to find their voice and express themselves through theater.  Musing on his return in July, Williams enthusiastically states “The synthesis of Improv Affect and the S.T.A.R. theatre program makes for an exciting journey creating original theater. I cannot wait to get back to Albany to begin our second journey!”

 

Capital Repertory Theatre is now accepting applications for S.T.A.R. 2009 theatre program.  The theme for this summer was designed with20the 2009 New York State celebration of the past 400 years of history of the Hudson River (the Quadricentennial) in mind and the program is entitled The Quad Adventure: Exploration, Discovery, Invention.  Enrollment is limited to 25 students.

 

Working alongside professional staff members to create an original piece based on their own experiences and research, students will use the Arts to cooperate and collaborate as they explore, discover and create.  Hands-on classes and workshops guide the process of creating a new work.  S.T.A.R. is a great opportunity for young adults to work creatively as a team and grow as individuals in an artistic forum.

 

The S.T.A.R. program runs from July 6 through August 9th, with performances August 5-9th on Capital Rep’s stage as well as other local venues.  S.T.A.R. will run Monday trough Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at The Egg in downtown Albany.  Tuition for the five-week program is $850.  Payment plans and need-based tuition assistance is available.  For more information, please call Maureen Aumand at (518) 462-4531, ext. 301.
