Regarded as an American literary classic, To Kill a Mockingbird follows two parallel stories – the courageous act of Atticus Finch to defend a wrongly accused black man and the loss of innocence of Scout, Jem and Dill as they begin to learn about racial injustice and social class distinctions within their own community. The story occurs in the deep South during the Great Depression, 30 years before the civil rights movement transformed attitudes towards racism in the United States.
