SPONTANEOUS BROADWAY CURSE?

SCHENECTADY --- Is there a Spontaneous Broadway CURSE?  Local improvisers
wonder.  It seems that whenever the Mop & Bucket Improv Company puts on
their smash hit Spontaneous Broadway they break a leg.  Literally.

The first run of Spontaneous Broadway at 440 Upstairs at Proctors
(Schenectady) MopCo’s founder Michael Burns missed a step mid-show exiting a
venue in Troy.  This misfortune, combined with a cast, a cane and a cravat,
helped Burns create fallen hoofer Mick Treadwell - the Broadway-loving
producer whose hustle and humor is a big part of the singing, dancing mayhem
that is Spontaneous Broadway.

This year Katie Haverly - who wins accolades as a singer/songwriter when
she's not bringing the house down as the sensational songbird Pandora Boite
- was trying to score a goal in an indoor soccer game.
 
"I heard a snap and fell down.  Everyone in the stadium stopped playing when
they heard my screams," she recalled.  No, she can't remember what the score
turned out to be, but the surgery was successful.  Haverly vows, "A broken
ankle can't stop me from belting it out!"

Is there a Spontaneous Broadway CURSE?  Well, two other Mopheads went under
the surgeon's knife this month.  Coincidence?  Who knows!

Invented by MopCo's own Kat Koppett in conjunction with Freestyle Repertory
Theatre in NYC, Spontaneous Broadway is an international smash hit that is
regularly performed in venues as disparate as San Fransico's BATS Improv,
the Sydney Opera House, and right here in the Capital District.
