John & Abigail Adams
William Hickman, a veteran professional regional actor in the Capital District in New York State, will play John Adams in Marriage of True Minds in Fort Edward performances Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p. and Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Edward’s Little Theater on the Farm. Rita Russell, another veteran theater professional from the Capital District, has performed in previous productions as Abigail Adams and will again join Hickman in these Fort Edward performances. She and Hickman originated their roles in the 2004 premiere in Whitehall. Russell, a regional professional actress and director, was also an English teacher in Saratoga Springs,While the premiere of the play was in July, 2004 at the unique Bridge Theater in Whitehall, NY, it has been performed by the same cast in Albany, NY and in Quincy, MA where John and Abigail Adams lived and are buried. The play deals with John and Abigail Adams’ love for each other and their zeal for liberty maintained throughout 10 years of the American Revolution despite seven years separation from each other because of John Adams’ duties. Hickman is also an associate producer of the Community Action Theater Services, a professional theater company of which Martin P. Kelly, playwright of “Marriage of True Minds,” is producing artistic director. Kelly has also served as artistic director during summer seasons at the Bridge Theater for the past 10 years.Hickman played John Adams several years ago in Atlanta, GA in another event about the American colonial leader. The play’s title, A Marriage of True Minds, is taken from a Shakespearian sonnet, and celebrates the couple’s single-minded support of the revolution and of each other. Through excerpting their letters, Kelly’s two-character play provides the audience with a solid glimpse of John and Abigail’s involvement in the American Revolution. Reservations are available at 518-461-5411 or at the box office of the Little Theater on the Farm, 27 Plum Road, Fort Edward. Further information at www.littletheater27.com
Broadway Royalty
A new musical revue, Broadway Royalty, will be presented for two performances, Saturday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the Little Theater on the Farm in Fort Edward. The revue, written by Martin P. Kelly, is performed by a quartet of regional singers gathered especially for this production. This production is brought to Fort Edward through the auspices of Community Action Theater Services, Inc. Soprano Janet Stasio of Lake George, Adam Paul Fine of Queensbury, Angela Potrikus and William Hickman, both of Niskayuna, comprise the quartet who will sing award-winning musical comedy songs that represent 100 years of Broadway history. Musical director Vince Bonafede of Troy is on keyboard. From Irving Berlin to Stephen Sondheim, Jerome Kern to Rodgers and Hammerstein, and George and Ira Gershwin to Jerry Herman, almost two dozen composers and lyricists are represented in this revue. They also represent a group of composers with Jewish backgrounds that collectively have won at least 65 percent of the Tony Awards presented in the last 50 years. The revue stems from a nationwide public library program honoring these composers as representative of the cultural heritage established in the United States by an immigrant group and their descendents. Broadway Royalty, written as a contribution to this program, will perform in December at the Delmar Library in Albany County as part of the nationwide recognition of this heritage. The Little Theater on the Farm is located at 27 Plum Road in Fort Edward. Admission is $10, and tickets are available by calling 518-461-5411. They also may be purchased at the box office prior to performances. More information and directions at www.littletheater27.com
