Sand Lake Center for the Arts is holding a theater workshop on Sound sponsored by Circle Theatre Players featuring Joel Lord, TANYS Technical Adjudicator, on Sat. Feb. 5 from 10am - 2pm. Workshop is $25 and registration and fee can be mailed to SLCA, PO Box 179, Averill Park, NY 12018 or register on line at www.slca-ctp.org.

Joel will cover what constitutes a sound design and how to lay the groundwork for a good design. Emphasis will be placed on getting more out of the script than you expect to find there, and things to watch out for. Then, after a short break, he will cover what is involved in taking a design and turning it into reality, and doing it well. Emphasis will be on avoiding the common pitfalls and maximizing the experience for the audience.

Joel Lord (Sound Designer and Audio Engineering Society member) has been involved with Theatrical Sound Design for the past 15 years for shows in settings such as RPI, Schenectady Light Opera, C-R-B- Productions at the Cohoes Music Hall. Two of his designs have been recognized by the Theater Association of New York State, one receiving the first Outstanding award given for a Sound Design. Over that same period, he has been involved with sound system redesigns for the RPI Playhouse and Schenectady Light Opera.
