An American Classic waits in the wings at Confetti Stage!
Confetti Stage, Inc, Award Winning Theatre Without Limits, is pleased to announce its 39th production, Tennessee William’s classic, A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Agnes Kapusta. A Streetcar Named Desire will run for 7 performances from Friday, April 1, 2011 through Sunday, April 10, 2011 at The Albany Masonic Hall in Downtown Albany.
the story:
Evocative and intense, the emotional undercurrent of A Streetcar Named Desire transcends its setting of 1940’s New Orleans. It reaches out to us, hot, desperate, and vulnerable as we are drawn into a moment in time where the cloud of stunted desire hangs as omnipresent as sensual perfume mingled with smoke and the sharp tinge of alcohol, motionless and brooding, in the stifling heat. It is raw. It is sex and death, sadness and loss, darkness and illusions, but also hope, love and kindness. It is a poetic dream that allows us to explore some of the most powerful and universal emotions of the human experience. The play reveals to the very depths the character of Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject—so far as possible—the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely "normal" young husband of the latter, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness.
A Streetcar Named Desire runs for the following 7 performances only:
