than 900 versions - every culture has a variation. We have woven stories
from the following cultures together: Egypt, Africa, Europe, China, and
Ireland, and they are all coming together on the Steamer stage. Our C.A.S.T.
kids are putting the final touches on it for a weekend of performances May
13 & 14 at 7 pm and May 14 & 15 at 2 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Egyptian Cinderella - A young Greek woman is kidnapped by pirates and sold
as a slave in Egypt. Her manners and background make her stand out, with
the result that she is treated cruelly by the other servants of the
household. Her master happens upon this one evening and has golden slippers
made for her. One day a hawk - the god Horus - steals a slipper and drops it
into Pharaoh's lap. He searches the kingdom to find its owner, and when he
finds her, makes her his queen.

African Cinderella - Chinye is forced to live in a mud pit with the frogs
and act as a servant to her step-sister Adanma. There is a village festival
which Chinye is forbidden to attend by her step-mother. The frogs replace
her rags with beautiful clothes and she attends the festival where her
dancing catches the eye of the Chief's son. Chinye is forced to flee when
her step mother spots her, but looses a slipper which the Chief's son uses
to find her again her.

European Cinderella - This is the version that most of us are familiar with.
A young girl, through the magical intervention of her fairy god mother,
escapes from her step family to attend the Prince's Ball, but only until
midnight. As she flees she loses a glass slipper. The Prince finds it and
uses its unique size to find her again.

Chinese Cinderella - A young girl is force to serve her step-mother and
step-sister; her only friend is a magical fish. The step-mother discovers
it, then kills and eats it. The spirit of the fish gives Yeh-Shen clothing
to attend the Spring Festival where she loses a gilded slipper. The slipper
is sold and traded until it ends up at the king's court. He traces its
journey to find the original owner, Yeh-Shen. He then brings her to his
court and marries her.

The Irish Cinderlad - Billy Beg befriends a magical bull. His Step Mother
threatens Billy's new pet so Billy and Bull flee the kingdom. After numerous
adventures the Bull is killed in a confrontation with another bull. As he is
dying he instructs Billy to take his magic tail which Billy later uses to
subdue an Ogre. The ogre gives Billy a pair of huge boots. Later Billy
defeats a dragon and saves a Princess, but hearing his step-sister in the
crowd, flees, leaving the Princess holding one of his boots. She searches
all of Ireland to find him.
