Star Spangled Washboard Band with special guests Lonesome Val Haynes & Todd
Nelson
Saturday, April 21st at 8 pm
Before Blotto was Blotto, its key members made music as The Star Spangled
Washboard Band -- offering a wild, woolly amalgam of jug band songs,
vaudeville humor, tight harmonies and staggering technique as evinced by the
group's Flying Fish debut album, "Collector's Item" (which is, now, indeed,
a collector's item). The SSWB's sole reunion performance was a sold-out show
at the Steamer in 1997, and every patron's face was plastered with a smile.
To make the evening even more interesting, Val Haynes & Todd Nelson, from
the legendary Fear of Strangers, will open the show with an acoustic set.

Rosary Beard with special guests Winterpills
Friday, May 4 at 8 pm
On their own, Matthew Carefully (formerly of Kamikaze Hearts) and Hunter
Sagehorn (currently with Alta Mira) create a wide array of sounds ranging
from the treated-mandolin loops of Carefully's "Kentucky" to the angular,
rhythmically cryptic rock of Sagehorn's band. But with Rosary Beard -- which
made its debut at the famed Caffe Lena -- the duo strips things back to just
two acoustic guitars, sitting knee to knee, weaving breathtaking melodies to
and fro. It's haunting, ethereal and fresh. At the Steamer, Rosary Beard
will celebrate music from a new album being recorded this spring.
Northampton's Winterpills will open the show with their unique blend of
chamber pop.

Frank Jaklitsch & Friends
Saturday, May 5 at 7 pm
He's the song man. Whether writing his own classics or interpreting those of
others, Frank Jaklitsch always find the true heart of a song and he conveys
that to his audience with true passion. He is, in short, the best friend a
song ever had. For his special concert performances, Jaklitsch selects both
a charity and a theme, and his Steamer stop will provide equipment funds for
a local school while focusing musically on themes of children and family.

Voting is still open for the Times Union's 2012 Best of the Capital Region

One Weekend Only: Clinton's Ditch - Saga of the Erie Canal!

Saturday, April 28th at 7 pm and Sunday, April 29th at 3 pm.

Jack McGee falls asleep in history class and "wakes up" in a dream, where
his history teacher leads him through the history of the Erie Canal. This
innovative show places 21st century characters into the 19th century
allowing them to interact and ask the questions that highlight the relevance
of the Erie Canal to our own times. If you are a history buff, or just like
a fun story, this is for you.

Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 advance purchase (service charge may
apply). Call 438-5503 for tickets.
