NOT SO COMMON PLAYERS 2012 summer production, OLIVER! , opens July 13, 2011 and runs for two weekends: Friday through Sunday, July 13-15 and Thursday through Sunday, July 19-22. All performances begin at 8:00 PM. Performances are free, but donations of non-perishable food for the Jonesville Food Pantry will be greatly accepted.
This musical adaption of Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist, with music, book and lyrics by Lionel Bart, follows the orphan, Oliver, through Victorian London. From the Workhouse, to the undertakers’, to the company of Fagin’s pick pockets, Oliver seeks his place in the World. In the end, he finds his home.
OLIVER! , directed by Shane Thompson (assisted by Debbie May), choreographed by Edmund Metzold, with musical direction by Adrienne Cosey, tells the story of Oliver (Jack Siple) and his life at the Workhouse with its overseerer Mr. Bumble (Shane Thompson) and his assistant Widow Corney (Melissa Putterman-Hoffmann). He’s soon sold to the undertakers, Mr. and Mrs. Sowerberry (John Burke and Debbie May). Oliver escapes, and is befriended by the Artful Dodger (Bobby Ruggles) and joins a band of pick pockets led by Fagin (Ian Gauthier). He soon meets the lovely Nancy (Laura Tortorici) and evil Bill Sykes (Chris Malatesta). In the end, he finds his grandfather, Mr. Brownlow (Joe Malone), but not before lives are lost.
Come enjoy the telling of a rough and tumble life through song and dance in this classic production, OLIVER!. On July 20 and 21, make it a family evening by attending the NOT SO COMMON KIDS production of ANNIE, JR., beginning at 6:00 PM. Bring a blanket and enjoy an evening of theatre under the stars. Refreshments available from the Shenendehowa Color Guard.
