  THE SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYHOUSE

Opera Saratoga's "Opera to Go" production of

An Opera for Children of All ages, and their Families

Children and families of all ages are invited to Opera Saratoga's production of Little Red's Most Unusual Day at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 So. Church Street, Schenectady, on Saturday, March 31, at 2:30 p.m.

Little Red's Most Unusual Day, a short 45-minute opera for young audiences of all ages is free of charge and open to the public. The performance is underwritten by Schenectady Civic Players' Gwen Fraser Memorial Fund to give back to the community and excite young people on the magic of the arts.

The production is an operatic version of the story of Little Red Riding Hood based on scenes from operas by J. Offenbach and G. Rossini. In this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood by John Davies, Forest Ranger Dudley is too shy to ask Little Red's mom, the widow Hood, to the Forest Ranger Ball. For that reason he leaves a written invitation in a basket of flowers outside Little Red's house. Unfortunately for Dudley, the basket is delivered to Granny. Granny simply loves men, especially men in uniform. In the resulting confusion Dudley loses his clothes, Granny kisses the Wolf, Mom gets impatient and Little Red gets in trouble. In fact, everyone experiences, in one way or another, a very, very unusual day

Little Red's Most Unusual Day features a talented cast of young professionals. Singing the part of Little Red will be soprano Jacquelyn Vina. Kimberly Oppelt, mezzo-soprano, will do double duty as Little Red's mother and grandmother. Tenor Elias Traverse will portray Dudley the loveable Forest Ranger and, Mr. Big Bad Wolf himself will be sung by bass-baritone Keith Brown. Accompanist will be pianist Lori Milbier. General Director Curtis Tucker chose these talented performers from hundreds of singers who auditioned for Opera Saratoga's Young Artist Program last fall.
