THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE TO PRESENT PETER SHAFFER’S

“LETTICE AND LOVAGE” DURING MARCH

The Ghent Playhouse will present Peter Shaffer’s comedy “Lettice and Lovage.”
Directed by Tom Detwiler, the play will open on Friday, March 15 and play through Sunday, March 31 in the Playhouse’s usual schedule of Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2. Tickets are $18 each and $15 for Friends of the Playhouse.
Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-800-838-3006 or going to www.ghentplayhouse.org.

This comedy, by Peter Shaffer, originally starred Dame Maggie Smith as Lettice Douffet a docent at "the dullest house in England," Fustian Hall. Lettice uses her naturally theatrical, larger than life personality to "Enlarge, Enliven, and Enlighten" an otherwise boring tale of "nothing ever happening." Lotte Schoen from the Preservation Trust is not

amused by Lettice's embellishments and is forced to take action. As the two women learn more about each other’s lives, a friendship blossoms and their drink-fueled Friday evenings spent together are filled with the trials and tribulations of Kings and Queens. Opposites do attract, lost dreams can be realized and, enlivening any situation will win in the end.

Johnna Murray plays Lettice, Joan Coombs is Lotte and Glen Barrett plays Mr Bardolph the Preservation Trust’s lawyer. Nancy Hammell rounds out the cast as Miss Framer the secretary.

Set and Lighting design is by Bill Camp and costume design is by Joanne Maurer.
