THE PANTOLOONS ARE BACK WITH THEIR FOURTEENTH SHOW AT

THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE

Ghent, NY — Opening Friday 29th (the day after Thanksgiving) and running through December 15, the Ghent Playhouse will present The PantoLoons fourteenth production. This year, the madcap troupe will present “SleepFrog”, a merry merger of two well-known fairy tales in a version never before seen of “The Sleeping Beauty” and “The Frog Prince.” Frogs, Fairies and Royals abound amid spells, songs and enough schtick to keep you awake and hopping.

Once again Judy Staber, with Tom Detwiler’s clever additions, has dreamed up the storyline and the Loons have added all the lyrics, bells and whistles which make this event so much sort after each Holiday season. Tom Detwiler directs, Paul Leyden musically directs, Joanne Maurer designs the colorful costumes and the cast of ten cross-dress and cavort on the Playhouse’s stage - this time they do it with wings as the script calls for six fairies! Monk Schane-Lydon forsakes his usual skirts and plays the Frog; Michael Meier doubles as the King’s right-hand man and the Prince, Paul Murphy plays both the Queen and the sleeping Princess and Joanne Maurer plays the King. The six winged fairies are Cathy Lee-Visscher, Nellie Rustick, Sally McCarthy, Judy Staber, and Paul Leyden as the good fairies and godparents to the Princess and Tom Detwiler is the bad fairy. All’s well that ends well, after more than a century has passed. The remarkable Bill Camp provides the necessary magic with the settings and lighting.

Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 and Sunday afternoons at 2. Tickets are $20, $17 for Friends of the Ghent Playhouse and $12 for children under 12 years.
