The SLOC theater has been transformed into an elegant night club for its thrilling production of Smokey Joe's Cafe.  This seven time Tony nominated and Grammy award winning musical revue showcases 39 pop standards, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. These memorable hits, ranging from the late 1950’s through the mid 1970’s, are presented by some of the area’s most talented performers.  The nine person cast includes many of your favorites such as Dashira Cortes, Nik Gatzendorfer, Daryl Hirschfeld, David Izzo, Jennifer Lefsyk, Christine Meglino, Michael C. Mensching, Josh Powell and Amanda Jo Wilsey.  This Leiber/Stoller songbook is sure to trigger some delightful memories with a variety of novelty songs ("Charlie Brown", “Little Eqypt”), romantic ballads ("Spanish Harlem", “Fools Fall In Love”), Rock and Roll (“Jailhouse Rock”), soaring melodies  (“Saved”, “I Am Woman”),  and moving renditions (“I Who Have Nothing, Neighborhood”, “Stand By Me”).
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller are one of the greatest songwriting teams in history. Together they created and defined a sound that influenced a variety of music and launched the careers of many iconic recording artists.  Smokey Joe’s Café paved the way for an entire Broadway musical genre,  including Jersey Boys and  Mamma Mia, where musical artists are celebrated.
Join us as we travel back in time, reliving special memories through this timeless music  - laughing with friends, high school dances, that first love – that first kiss.  Directed by Brandon Jones. March 26, 27, 28 and 29.   Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm,  Sunday at 2pm
The house opens at 7:15 (and 1:15 on Sunday) to enable you to enjoy your complimentary glass of wine and light snacks.
