“TOO DEPRESSING FOR WORDS” TUESDAY, MAY 19
AT SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYHOUSE -- FREE!
SCHENECTADY – Too Depressing for Words, a new comedy by frequent Playhouse performer Robin MacDuffie, will be presented as a free play reading Tuesday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 So. Church Street, in Schenectady’s historic Stockade district .
Synopsis: Frank is writing his dramatic masterpiece. If only he could get past the first few pages. Frank is stuck solidly in the grips of middle age, and coworker Janice work for Eugene, who takes sadistic pleasure in making Frank's work life a hell. Frank lives for his off-work hours when, as he writes, his characters Ernest and Artice play out their Like a Walk In the Park scenes in front of him.
Ernest embodies Frank's damaged and struggling spirit, while spit-fire Artice represents the youth and artistic alacrity Frank has lost. But, Frank can never finish a scene; he has writer's block surrounding the words "too depressing for words," which Artice inevitably utters and, as a result, all action in his scenes stop.
As Frank struggles with uncooperative characters and an unsympathetic boss, his reality begins to warp, and figuring out what is truth and what is fiction takes a back seat in the quest for a redemptive happy ending.
Too Depressing for Words features Jean T. Carney, Robert L. Hegeman, Ben McCauley, Randy McConnach, Katherine Stephens and Bonnie Lake.
Free. Open seating. No advance reservations. One performance only. 382-2081. www.civicplayers.org
