On Thursday, June 9 at 7pm, The Bookstore in Lenox, MA will host Town Players of Pittsfield's reading of "Mr. Noble Melancholy", an original work by Maryann Sherman and Karel Fisher. It will be read by local actor and Town Players' Board Member, John Trainor. This reading was initially presented as part of Pittsfield's "In Motion Literary Party" during the 10x10 Upstreet Arts Festival in February.

Nathaniel Hawthorne, a descendant of a Salem witch judge, one of the most prominent American authors of the nineteenth century, author of "The House of the Seven Gables", "The Scarlet Letter","Tanglewood Tales" etc., was a part time resident of and traveler in Berkshire County in the early 1850s. By his own admission, he was a melancholy man who, though happily married, often expressed gloom in his writing. This reading describes, among other things, Hawthorne's travels to Pittsfield, his climb with Melville and Holmes up Monument Mountain and his thoughts on departing the Berkshires for the last time.

After the reading, light refreshments will be provided and beverages will be available for purchase at The Bookstore's Get Lit Wine Bar. The Bookstore is located at 11 Housatonic St. in Lenox.
