Thursday Night: Open will feature Mopco’s first improv jam in their new theatre. Part workshop, part show, an improv jam lets new improvisers get their feet on stage and hone their craft in a supportive, low-stakes environment. Mixing new students and improv veterans, participants are encouraged to share new games and exercises in a free-wheeling session of improvised scenes and songs. Thursday Night: Opens will continue to feature events that offer more than a show, but an experience for all those who attend.
Fringe Friday will feature local acts and improv groups from the Capital Region and beyond. The first at the new theatre will feature Sorry Not Sorry, an Albany-based longform improv group that has been performing in the area and in far-flung improv festivals for over two years. They will be making their first appearance in the Mopco Improv Theatre along with house team, the Mopco Rebels, an experimental group made up of regular members of the Mop & Bucket Company. Each Friday, The Mopco Improv Theatre will host bold and exciting new performers who will surely become Capital Region favorites.
Saturday Night Mainstage will feature two-time Best of the Capital Region recipient The Mop & Bucket Company in TheatreSports (™) Created by living improv legend Keith Johnstone and developed at the Loose Moose Theatre in Calgary, TheatreSports (™) is performed by improv troupes across the globe. The show features two teams of improvisers that challenge each other to thematic scenes that are awarded points by olympic-style judges. The crowd is encouraged to cheer and jeer in an exciting night of improv that sometimes feels more like a sporting event than a night of theatre. The competitive format encourages teams to take risks and engage with the crowd.
Tickets for all events will be available at http://www.mopco.org/shows/ <http://www.mopco.org/shows/>.
The Mopco Improv Theatre, the Capital Region’s newest arts venue, will host improv, standup, and small scale scripted theatre performances in an intimate former firehouse. Mopco also offers an array of improv classes, from beginners looking to try something new to experienced performers. The company also has a youth troupe for students 10-17.
