OPENING OCTOBER 14 AT SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYERS

Rapture, Blister, Burn by Gina Gionfriddo and directed by Patrick White, opens Schenectady Civic Players’ 89th season Friday, October 14, and runs through Sunday, October 23 at their Playhouse, 12 South Church Street, in Schenectady’s historic Stockade district.

A 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama, Rapture, Blister, Burn premiered off-Broadway in 2012 at NYC’s Playwrights Horizons Theater. The five-character cast included Amy Brenneman of television’s “Private Practice” and “Judging Amy”. The New York Times called it an “intensely smart, immensely funny play.”

After grad school, Catherine and Gwen chose polar opposite paths. Catherine builds a career as a rockstar academic, while Gwen builds a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in opposite ways, each woman covets the other’s life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs. With searing insight and trademark wit, this comedy in an unflinching look at gender politics in the wake of 20th-century feminist ideals.

The Civic Players cast features Cristine M. Loffredo (as Catherine), Sara Paupini (as Gwen) Pat Brady (as Alice), Alexander Jones (as Don), and Brigitta Giulianelli (as Avery).

Rapture, Blister, Burn runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday (October 14, 15, 16) and Wednesday through Sunday (October 19 through 23). Wednesday and Thursday curtains are at 7:30 pm; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm; and Sundays are matinees only at 2:30 pm.
