LAKE GEORGE - The Holiday Inn Resort, in conjunction with The Lake Theatre,
(the former Lake George Dinner Theatre) will present "Pookahs and Yams,"
performed on selected Thursday evenings this summer by an ensemble of local
actors/interns and one musician.
This is a new venture for the Holiday Inn Resort and The Lake Theatre. It
is described as a "theatrical experience for the whole family."
"Pookahs and Yams" was originally performed by Joseph Hart and The
Shoestring Players. This new production will be directed by Corinda Bravo.
The actors are all part of the newly developed Lake Theatre Intern Program.
The Lake Theatre is thrilled to announce its new internship program. The
Lake Theatre will be working with local aspiring theater professionals. The
interns will be learning all about the rigors of backstage work including
set building, light hanging & focusing and Stage Management. The Lake
Theatre is looking forward to seeing the intern program continue for years
to come!
The new, fast-paced family production will present three different folk
tales from around the world.
The first stop in "Pookahs and Yams" is Ghana for the humorous folk tale
"Talk." The second stop is Jamaica to follow the wild adventure titled
"Conquering John."
The third stop is Ireland for the roller coaster ride of "Daniel O'Rourke,"
where the audience may find out what a pookah actually is.
The just-under one-hour shows will be performed on Thursdays at 6 p.m. July
26, and Aug. 2, Aug. 9, Aug. 16, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30. Cost is $10.00 for
general admission at the Lake George Holiday Inn Resort.
The ensemble uses percussion, each other, and the audience member's
imagination to create a visual storytelling experience.
The Lake Theatre also offers its two major professional productions
Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Holiday Inn Resort at 2223 Canada Street
in  Lake George.
