2 days until we open....

Calvin Berger

Directed by Michael Musial

Book, Music and Lyrics by Barry Wyner / Orchestration by Doug Besterman

Original Direction by Kathleen Marshall

Scene Change Music Arranged by Aron Accurso

Based loosely on Edmond Rostand’s play Cyrano de Bergerac, Calvin Berger is
the hip and hilarious story of unrequited feelings, love notes, and
physical insecurity among four high school seniors.

The Theatre Institute At Sage presents Calvin Berger as the first
production of the 2021-2022 season. Based on a well-known classic, with a
relatable coming of age spin on the story as four teenagers navigate new
feelings surrounding love, trust, and what really matters above physical
appearance. While the world is opening up, TIS maintains the commitment to
keeping the community safe and will require audiences to be masked and to
bring proof of vaccination. We thank you for your cooperation, and are so
excited that this season we can return to the live theatre experience that
we all have missed.

Calvin Berger is directed by Russell Sage College Associate Professor of
Music and Theatre, Michael Musial. Edith McCrae Professor of Fine Arts and
Professor of Music, Michael is past Chair of the Creative and Performing
Arts Department and founding Director of the Theatre Institute at Sage. He
is the composer and co-lyricist of the award winning musical Backbeard: The
Musical. Directing and music directing credits include Candide, Children of
Eden, The Secret Garden, A Chorus Line, Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd among
others. Musial also musically directed A Tale of Cinderella for NYSTI’s
2001 New York State tour. A member of the duo-piano team Musial and Musial,
he is also the director of the Sage College Singers.

The cast includes four talented Russell Sage students; Tyler Cardona, Liz
Broderick, Noah Dougherty, and Jenna Wilkinson. Sage students involved in
the creative team process include Regina Desrosiers, Assistant Director;
